Timeblind
bio
Timeblind currently lives in Berlin. He used to live in New York, but that got too stressy and the rents are just too high. Berlin is relaxed and cheap and therefore filled with musicians.
On Kid606’s Shockout Records Timeblind dropped some digital dancehall with Come Back Wicked feat Wayne Lonesome. The Myanmar remix (2004) for DJ /rupture is teched out in a UK Garage proto-dubstep style.
As a DJ Timeblind has always blended dancehall, jungle, hip-hop and techno, so when UK Garage and later Grime started happening it was a natural style for him and he started spinning it at his NYC club night the bunker.
With the classic dub-tronica joint The Rastabomba a liquid hip-hop groove gets grafted onto a mysterious (and still untraced) late-night radio transmission from “the beautiful village of 'arlem”. Subject: the apocalypse, cycle change, how to survive it.
The full length CD Rugged Redemption Orthlorng Musork, 2001) slyly blurred genre boundaries and made it onto numerous top 10 lists for that year. In 2002 he played at the Sonar and Mutek festivals and did several tours of Europe.
From 1998 till 2004 he lived in New York, founding the Polar Bear Club (with Mike Wolf) and later the bunker (with DJ Spinoza) club nights at Tonic. It was a sonic collision where things like Coltrane, Mego, Timbaland and Roll Deep got squished together on the turntables. UK Garage, disco, funk, arabic dance music, psychedelia to full-on breakcore. It became one of the hot spots of downtown NYC with guest DJs like Matmos and Anti-Pop Consortium. The Bunker continues today (after Timeblind split to Berlin) and is a regular venue for excellent New York parties: Dan Bell (DBX), Sammy Dee (Perlon) and Suburban Knight (UR). One of the hotspots of US techno.
While in New York Timeblind was also a regular player at DJ Olive and Toshio Kajiwara’s Phonomena, exploring the outer limits of downtown improv with laptop, turntables or saxophone.
In the 1990s, living in Minneapolis, he released many underground techno records on top labels like Richie Hawtin’s Probe (Plus-8), Communique, Synewave, Missile and Kanzleramt. These tracks were featured on many Mix CDs including Profound Sounds V2 and Laurent Garnier – Laboratoire Mix. Well known for his innovative live sets he played massive parties and clubs alongside Richie Hawtin, Joey Beltram, Sven Vath, Derrick Carter and countless others over the years.
Appeared on the Trancefusion(1993) compilation on Instinct/Sonic which sold 16,000 copies and featured Orbital, Irresistible Force and Westbam.
Born in L.A., grew up in Minneapolis and the UK. Studied classical Saxophone and composition at the Eastman School of Music.

MahoutMay 2009
for MUSICBOX / diversity.fm in Lancs http://www.myspace.com/musicboxmobiledisco A Mahout is a the long-term caretaker of an Elephant. I was going to call this mix Elephant Jockey, which means both “guy who likes to fuck fat girls” and is a racial epithet in certain parts of Africa. I decided not to use the name due to the later … but probably should’ve. One night in southern India my very good friend Galya and I got off the bus in a state park. We were immediately surrounded by the rangers who told us we couldn’t stay there due to the dangerous presence of Veerappan the Bandit (although he was never known to terrorize tourists). We caught a ride on top of a truck and there I met a Mahout who told me in typically fucked up English about his 30 years with his Elephant. Long term relationship, very deep. It was late and very dark and the truck barreled loudly under the Banyan trees. A few months later Veerappan, who was very vain about his majestic moustache, experienced health problems due to the toxic black die he colored it with. He tried to go into the city to seek help, but when the car opened its back doors he was assassinated by the police with a single shot to the head. It is believed that he had stashed millions of rupees deep in the forest in cash including ransom money and ornaments, in secret caves and holes in the forest. LD – Peace In Our Culture |
