My guru Sri Aurobindo is an awesome (and dead) creature. Educated at Cambridge, he was involved in the early independence movement in India, got locked up in Prison whereupon the Divine invaded his consciousness. He is credited with bringing the concept of Evolution into Vedantic thought.

The universe was born of ignorant forms. In discovering the highest consciousness, one moves from Ignorance to Knowledge, experiencing the delight of being for which the universe was created. Reason for Ignorance -- All forms were born of an inconscience, unconsciousness, and Ignorance. It was so because it allowed for the greatest multiplicity and possibility of forms, which would enable the greatest possibility for delight in discovery of its highest nature.

He decoded the Vedas and revealed complex layers of meaning beneath what everybody thought were simple songs for the old Aryan hunter gatherers to worship the Sun. Burying the Sun in the Earth, the internal fire Agni, usw.

Oh, and speaking of the ancients, fuck christmas :

So Kwanzaa and Festivus are mistakes : anti-establishment offshoots doomed only to be known as anti, thus reinforcing the establishment. The better tactic is to reclaim Christmas, which we (the secularists, mystics, Santas, department stores and most especially all the children) have most definitely achieved.

Don't let the Christians fool ya, Christmas is all about love and de-Scrooging ourselves. Poor Christians. Poor Christ, he seems like such a nice guy; but that's marketing for ya.
