questions concerning globablization

3 December 2004

These are my own personal questions and observations--things I can't figure out yet.

can globalization happen without homogenization ? no, it is by definition a process of homogenization. first in the marketplace, and subsequently in cultural images and values.

does everyone have to go along with progressive modern culture ? can any ancient culture resist the apparent freedom of western popular culture ? it is possible for cultures to deliberately exist outside of the global culture, but they have to do so either by ignorance (which won't last) or by deliberate plan (and the global culture will instinctively attempt to penetrate it)

in sierra leonne kids fight each other wearing Tupac Army and Notorious B.I.G. using far more deadly force than ever happened in the US crack gang wars.

in cambodia, rural farmers can find better prices and the villagers can make traditional clothes and sell them on the internet, powered by a generator and satellite hookup. this makes them sustainable. and the kids can now gawk at thai movie stars even though they've never themselves seen a movie or even a thai.

Bhutan is very protected, very hard to get a visa for. TV has finally be allowed into the country, and now they have cable. now they can watch 'Cops'. the first domestic abuse cases have now been recorded and and actual murder. no-one ever commits murder in Bhutan.

the world is getting stewed together. those weird diseases are making it out of the jungle. but the medicine and slowly the clean water is making it to the third world. malaria now kills only millions instead of hundreds of millions. the oil derived electricity is helping people survive.

population is increasing. the cities are still growing.

an indian activist in brazil is keeping the last couple of tribes from making first contact. nobody has met with these tribes for many hundreds of years. he says "I'm only trying to buy them some time."

In case you all hadn't noticed, the world is falling apart. I posted here back on September 11th, 2007 that the finance world was going to fall apart. http://crucial-systems.com/For_those_of_you_that_dont_pay_attention_to_the_world_of_finance The reason I fled New York was that I could see quite clearly that the wheels were going to come off that wagon and the US may very well collapse into chaos. Alarmist, yes. That's what alarms are for. The solid truth is that the financial markets always precede the real ...

    • Artist Dr. Steven Kurtz cleared of all charges

This was the most bat shit crazy episode in the whole Bush Gestapo Era. Charges are finally dropped, but as Kurtz states, there is no re-compensation for him. The case originated in May 2004, when Kurtz's wife Hope died of heart failure as the couple was preparing a project about genetically modified agriculture for the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. Police who responded to Steve Kurtz's 911 call deemed the Kurtzes' art materials suspicious and alerted the FBI. Kurtz explained ...

Dick in 2004. Right. So what were they thinking the second time round ? Its time to get the whole middle east powder keg going. Its time to destroy the US itself USSR-Afghanistan style, thus opening it up for corporate takeover. Its time for Armageddon. They are in contact with space aliens, and its the aliens that told them they had to do it. The so-called Left should give up trying to reason with these people and saying America got ...

    • respect to the deserters

At an Army base in Alaska last year, "there was one guy who literally chopped off his trigger finger with an axe to prevent his deployment," Dr. Thomas Grieger, a senior navy psychiatrist said in an interview. New york times, mon april 9th, 2007 Respect. More respect then I give to the Buddhist monk in Thailand who cut off his penis because it wouldn't sit still during meditation. Interesting: The desertion rate during the Vietnam war was 5% (NYT)
