.kleverVice sez:
i find it shocking how few of you have ever asked me what a kleverVice is. today is the day i tell you. kleverVice is a character in a story i wrote when i used to write stories which is what i did before i used to play records. she is one of three girl superheros, the other two being trixie sky rocket and stella by bar light. they have this mother maiden hag thing going on (i was in my early twenties at the height of west coast liberalism, cut me some slack). klever is the maiden. stella is the mother. trixie is the hag. klever is a young scientist. stella is a humble playwright. trixie is a post-artstar performance loooney. she wears pink hot pants and has sagging skin and secretly im in love with her most! there's this other character, lord skandal, a writer doomed with a vocabulary 100 years before his time, and his boss, the evil geriatrich who owns a pharmeceutical company. there are several stories that explain how all these people met, though it culminates in something i never finished.
this.
the setting is the eve of the millenium (as i said, this was long ago) and there is a bi-coastal party to celebrate our arrival to yet another christian marker. klever has invented some sort of contraption which takes all the people from the west coast and sends them east (and vice versa) -- and sort of like "the fly" -- it fucks up. people get mangled, or just plain lost in space. understandably many people are quite upset with klever, while others (like geriatrich) are hot on her tail so they can use her invention for evil.
so it goes. fairytales.
klever, trixie, and stella wake up in a hotel in manhattan (long before i ever visited) seemingly unharmed. klever is appropriately anxious and of course they have to flee, get back to san francisco, and destroy the plans for the machine before geriatrich catches them. on their way west, narrowly escaping death repeatedly, they start to realize they share commen memories... not just of time spent together, but of private moments. interesting. and by the time they reach new orleans they've discovered they are actually the same person... and all the memories of the things they had done together previously (as well as all of the other stories about them) are just splices of other people and other times, fiction, mixed up in the silly party people transposer.
this brings out a nice idea: a few actually, but you know, half the fun of reading is deciding yerself, so i'll shut up.
anyway.... on their way back they then have to decide if they want to stay "three" people or go back to being one person. we've all been there, i hope.
how this relates to music and specifically DJing..... stella by bar light was my first DJ name. i took it to give myself 'moms confidence' in my first year of playing records (for people other than myself). after that i became kleverVice. louder. more experimental. probably more reckless, thankfully. trixie is reserved for high end performance... and you'll know when she is ready. cuz see trixie doesn't give a shit about anyone or anything except her own pleasure. she is a hag. she will break your heart, and love you infinitely if you are wise enough to realize it.

Baby Shotta : Movado with Ward 21 on the Nookie 2k6 riddim. This thing runs through my head every day. Movado - Ward 21 - Baby Shottas You can even buy it on iTunes Movado with the gorgeous drifting song, Ward 21's Suku—the bass dude. Good cop bad cop. Ward 21 always play their voice talent like an orchestra. Suku is the one that intones hypnotically on that single deadly pitch. Suku also produces many of my favorite Ward 21 ...

- grime: love/hate
On the street, cell phones enable impromptu rapping, or "spitting," over music played through speaker phones. Grime is hated and loved. Its basically a super media thing, attractive to people who write about stuff. All these "new" genres are like that (Favela funk, Reggaeton). Music is hard to talk about, and music writers ALWAYS bore me. They stick to the surface attributes. No way to know if something really is good or not based on these descriptions. If I listen ...
- soundclash: nietzsche vs. buddha
Many of the innovations in music for the past several decades happen in the more agressive, energetically active forms. Metal, punk, hip-hop, techno, jungle (hardcore), dancehall/bashment, grime. Nietzsche would be proud: the strong succeed, leading the way. The Appollonians may complain, back in their chill out rooms or up in their pop charts, but they follow the leader. Further down the line they sweeten the style up once its cooled off. War presidents think this way too. Apollonian nations fall ...

In case you all hadn't noticed, the world is falling apart. I posted here back on September 11th, 2007 that the finance world was going to fall apart. http://crucial-systems.com/For_those_of_you_that_dont_pay_attention_to_the_world_of_finance The reason I fled New York was that I could see quite clearly that the wheels were going to come off that wagon and the US may very well collapse into chaos. Alarmist, yes. That's what alarms are for. The solid truth is that the financial markets always precede the real ...

- I am legend
For some reason all the cool people are hating on the new Will Smith vehicle. People who haven't even seen it declare that they don't like it. I liked it. So there. As a former New Yorker its awesome to see New York totally devoid of people. I'm not quite sure where the lions come from. Any movie that features the near total extinction of mankind is usually somewhat enjoyable. You get to see Will scrunch his face up and ...
