Into the hinterland : Karl Marx Stadt
18 June 2009
My very good friend Christian "Society Suckers" and myself are headed out tomorrow to his hometown Chemnitz, originally known as Karl Marx Stadt. Frank Brentschneider is also from out there (actually the whole Raster-Noton label). Its one of those East German towns that I've always wanted to go check out.
I'm quite looking forward to it. The occasion is a club event put on my Geroyche for his birthday. Geräusch means "noise" in German. As usual it took me a while to notice that it probably wasn't his real name. I also didn't notice Errorsmith ("Aerosmith") and the other day while talking with "DJ Wattsriot":http://earconditioning.wordpress.com/ (a splendid gentlemen, let me assure you) I mentioned L-Vis 1990 and suddenly it dawned on him ... "Elvis". Yep, its hiding right under your nose. That's what you get for reading blogs and not hanging out with real people.
I took the picture in Peru on the very touristy street in Lima.
Sweden last week was splendid. Highlights for me were Group Doueh (psych rock from Western Sahara), Omar Souleyman (Syria), Konono No 1 (Congo), El Hijo de la Cumbia (Argentina), the aforementioned DJ Wattsriot (Tenerife) and of course Kode 9 who ended Friday night with a jungle rinse out. I played a lot of UK Funky, Funk Carioca, Kuduro, Dubstep, but mostly bits of this and that on the edges.
I'm going to assume Chemnitz don't want no UK Funky.
