DJ/rupture's Nettle project (completed with fellow producer DD) has always been a diverse affair and remarkably this desire to sidestep anypreconceptions is carried through onto this remix record. Selecting a variedbatch of friends and associates to reconstruction many of the tracks fromBuild A Fort Set That On Fire, this isn't the type of remix record where theinvited producers just supplement the original sounds with new beatarrangements. Rather this record sees the remixers rethinking the ideasbehind Nettle and their original arrangements - there are challenges to thedense beat ridden antics of Nettle. Pieces like 'The Ballad Of Jimmy HolinIs More Awkward Than That' from Leafcutter John and the fluttering motion ofMehmet Irdel's 'GUTed' likewise demonstrates the lengths to which each ofthe artist have gone to redefine the pace and mood of Nettle's fine debut. Adiverse, divided but thoroughly enthralling journey.

AG017 - Firecamp Stories - Remix EP 1Ace five track collection of remixes from DJ/Rupture's Nettle alter ego, featuring reworkings from DJ Scud, DJ /Rupture himself, and lots more ...Immediately we're pitched into a fearsome steppers oncrack roller coaster from DJ Scud, almost unmatchable on this form. Many of you will know this "Duende inchains" remix as one of the highlights on DJ Rupture's excellent mix cds, repeater drums, eastern strings, rampant unhinged junglism in the truest sense. Mehmet Irdel takes things ever more moorish, with north african dumbek drums and wicked polyrhythmic handclapping, accreting into a whirling dervish style tranceout. Jace Rupture himself kicks off the flip, the "Ensemblaje-Grit" remix all bowed cello and wicked percussion, creating a desert bluesy mantra which ispunctured by disturbed, processed vocal shocks. Ove-Naxx's "The Ballad of Jimmy Hollin" dismembers some benign oud s until the buzzing, mentalist rhythmreally stars to take over proceedings. True shock out. I/O lower us down with spare bell-like drones, adrift in a place with no water, and where even thesweltering silence seems brooding with hidden cries and night movements. Disturbed and disturbing, theAgriculture show us the right way, once again.Boomkat

The return of Nettle was like an old friend who came calling. I found a beer already in my hand in anticipation for the abstraction. It jumps up and twists around. I got a bit dizzy and all the time had a smile. Whirlwinds of electronic fragments loosened me up further. And no wonder, I felt like I was being grabbed at from all corners. The whole CD is ripped apart... literally by their friends. Too many captivating names to list; it's a crashing, a cutting, and plastering of elements. Way down the road on your block is a house that is sliding by on forgotten times. In need of a cleansing... it still has the past tuned in. You ask yourself why? The future is supposed to bright they say. Smash down the barriers. I'm turning the pages of time with each play. All you need to do is press play and you'll be into another day.
