Pressing plants and copyright issues

In some european countries you may have to pay Mechanical Royalties via the pressing plant even though you yourself are the copyright holder. You pay the moeny to your own PMI (eg. GEMA, STIM etc.), they hold the money for 6-12 months and then give it back to you !
In Germany GEMA this is known as Freischaltung. If you (or the artist) are not a member of GEMA you may state that you have paid your mechanical royaltiesto the copyright holder (yourself) and avoid paying to them.
