Wayne Lonesome

One of the key vocalists on The Bug(Tigerbeat 6 / Rephlex).
Dancehall DJ Wayne Lonesome was born and grew up in Rockfort, East Kingston. He began Djing while at school and honed his skills on local sound systems like Young Girls Choice, Mellow One and Metrographic. From 1984, he began hanging round studios like Tuff Gong and Harry J, looking for an opportunity to voice a tune. One day he met Leroy Smart and asked if he could voice for him. Leroy replied "Me no help youth!".
Wayne began to base his DJ style on the phenomenally popular DJ Tiger, and in 1986 he voiced his debut 45 "Time Of The End" for Calvin "Bubbles" Cameron's Uhuru label. His next tunes, "Don't Drink And Drive", "In The Ghetto", "Stud 55" and "Ebony And Ivory" were all voiced for the journalist Balford Henry's Multimedia label. Other tunes Wayne voiced in the 1980s included "Driving Skill", "Only Yesterday" (with Lukie D) and an album with Junior Chaplin entitled "Untouchable A Come".
In the 1990s, Wayne moved into producing as well as voicing and set up his own Run Things, Excel and Earth Don labels. He has produced a lot of artists like Frankie Paul, Sugar Minott, Culture, Ninjaman, Patrick Andy, Red Dragon, Tiger, Pinchers, Michael Buckley, Thriller U, Yami Bolo, Gregory Isaacs, Junior Cat, Quench Aid, Danny Dread and many more.
Memorable dancehall 45s Wayne has released include "Zebra Yuh Too Red" (his biggest tune to date), "Tribute To Tiger", "Greatest Bike Rider" (with Sugar Minott), "Arcade Tourist" (with Frankie Paul), and "Bonafide".
Although DJing very close to the style of Tiger, Wayne is a great and very humorous lyricist. He has songs for every dancehall occasion and specialises in burial lyrics aimed at other DJs and singers. Some of his new tunes for forthcoming release are bound to cause a big controversy in Jamaica.
Rootsman linked up with Wayne in the spring of 2002 and invited him to the Third Eye Studio to voice some dubplates and. While there, Wayne recorded two tunes produced by Rootsman - "Message From The King" and "Mr Hard Fi Unu Self". Listen out for this crucial dancehall DJ on the Third Eye label in the future.

***This installment of Shockout's 12-inch series pits a dancehall MC of serious weight and lyrical force against innovative and capable electronic musicians. "Come Back Wicked" is a tuff bad-boy salute to vengeance and confrontation voiced by Jamaican-born MC Wayne Lonesome (The Bug, Razor X). Music is provided by esteemed techno/electronica innovator Timeblind, known for his genre-defying releases on Orthlorng Musork, Drop Bass, Drop Beat, Mutek, Kanzleramt, Communique, and appearances on mix CDs by Laurent Garnier and Josh Wink. Timeblind's seminal "Rastabomba" was one of the first and best ragga-electronica hybrids. Along with the original new dancehall instrumental bonus track "What the...?" these Shockout mixes take things even further, delving into Babylonian abstraction while still swinging a funky Timbaland-on-supercollider beat. Also stepping up to the international soundclash scene are Ove-Naxx and DJ C. The prodigal find of Soot Records, Ove-Naxx pulls off a healthy cross between Aphex Twin and DJ /Rupture. Boston's DJ C (aka EOSS) is well known in the ragga jungle scene for running his own Mash It and Bliss labels, and for helping to found the Toneburst collective.
