new york vs. berlin
December 11, 2006, 7:32 pm
On an impulse I bought a ticket to India for 2 months. All summer long I have planned on getting out of Berlin for the winter so I hadn't renewed my visa. But without German residency, the Indian botschaft wouldn't grant me an Indian visa. The ticket was non-refundable, so the plane took off without me and I lost the $720.
My next impulse said it was time to go to New York. The New York vs. Berlin debate has raged in my mind for months. There are positives and negatives to each. I wake up some mornings and think "what am I doing here in Berlin ? what's my future, where is this leading ?" the next minute I think I would be crazy to leave.

Berlin has been wonderful for me as a musician to sit and work. All the time in the world. Too much time. (btw. 2 new releases coming in the near term pipeline). Berlin winters are sunny till 10am, grey till 4pm and then pitch black. By February we all go crazy. The summers are so green and relaxed, bright and flowing. New York is hot and stinky.
Today I'm in New York. Its loud. Conversations everywhere. I can maneuver in this city; I know how this thing works.

Berlin is haunting me like a breakup.

Rgds!
